  • Under the direction of the Billing Supervisor, the Medicare Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Medicare billing group within the Patient Financial Services department. This position has team leadership responsibility for the Medicare team as well as monitoring of the weekly productivity and monthly quality assurance processes. This person will also be responsible for work assignments as required to maintain an acceptable level of outstanding accounts receivable specific to the Medicare payer. This person is considered the Medicare specialist in the area of CMS billing and coding guidelines and ensures the accuracy of Medicare billing compliance. Additionally, the Medicare Coordinator is responsible for completion of the Medicare Credit Balance reports on a quarterly basis as well as the monthly Medicare Bad Debt Logs used by the Finance department for filing the annual CMS cost report.

    Qualifications:

    Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Prefer Associate's or Bachelors degree in Business or related field. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible Medicare Billing/Collections experience in a hospital setting that demonstrates a strong understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Also requires one (1) year of leadership or supervisor experience. Must have current knowledge of Medicare rules and regulations along with general knowledge of claims processing and medical terminology. Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet designated deadlines is required. Must be able to manage time appropriately. Data comparison skills are necessary. Must have strong organizational, communication, and written skills. Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English. Must have knowledge of hospital billing forms and billing requirements. Needs to be familiar with Medicare's Direct Data Entry system.
