Under the direction of the District Counsel, this position establishes, oversees and directs the evaluation, quantification, and risk strategy of all risks for the entire MIHS system. Develops, implements, and manages System-wide risk management program including risk/legal issue reporting, coordinate systems for risk identification, investigation and analysis, coordination of risk management education and general office/staff supervision. Position also involves oversight of chart review, compiling data, safety and risk education, customer service contact with patients, families, physicians, providers, staff at MIHS and the public.
Qualifications:Requires a Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or Management, Nursing, or related field; or an equivalent combination of training and progressively responsible experience that will result in the required specialized knowledge and abilities to perform the assigned work. A Juris Doctor degree is preferred. Must have minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible risk management related experience that demonstrates a high level of understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience must include demonstrated leadership ability, preferably working in a related risk management position in a healthcare setting. Prefer certification in Risk Management, Safety, Quality Management, Claims Management and/or Compliance. Must have demonstrated competence in risk management. Requires knowledge of health, employment and general liability law, hospital and health systems, insurance products and coverages, workers compensation, patient safety, risk management, compliance programs, quality, customer service and satisfaction. Must be a successful leader of people, have strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team. Must be able to decide how to allocate people, time and other resource to create, execute, and accomplish an operating or project plan on time and within budget. Must have solid analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to utilize the appropriate management techniques to plan, organize, control and coordinate activities. Must be able to manage priorities in a dynamic environment and adapt to change quickly and positively. Must demonstrate ability to be self-directed, as well as demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work as a team member with peers, other managers, physicians, staff and senior leadership. Must possess good customer service and communications skills, the ability to work with professionals and maintain confidentiality standards. Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.
